I Finally Read Twisted Games by Ana Huang — Here’s What I Really Think
Hey book lovers,
So I finally gave in and picked up Twisted Games by Ana Huang after seeing it everywhere on BookTok and Instagram. And now that I’ve read it? I totally get the hype.
This book had everything I didn’t know I needed — forbidden romance, slow burn tension, royal drama, and a protective bodyguard who’s emotionally unavailable (but somehow still gives you butterflies). Let’s talk about it.
Quick Summary (Spoiler-Free)
The story follows Bridget, a crown princess who suddenly has to take on a more serious royal role after her brother steps down. With this new position comes new security — and that’s where Rhys, her new bodyguard, enters the picture.
Rhys is all things tall, broody, and emotionally guarded. Bridget is trying to adjust to her new responsibilities while figuring out who she is outside of the palace walls. Their worlds collide, and well… let’s just say the chemistry is intense.
What I Loved
-
The Tension. Oh my god. The slow burn was perfect. You could feel the buildup from the very beginning — the stolen glances, the unspoken words. It made the eventual moments between them so much more powerful.
-
Character Growth. Bridget really comes into her own. She’s not a damsel in distress — she’s smart, grounded, and determined. And watching Rhys slowly open up (while fighting his own demons) was emotional in the best way.
-
Forbidden Romance Done Right. The whole “I’m your bodyguard, this can’t happen” thing could’ve felt cheesy, but Ana Huang writes it so well. It’s emotional, it’s messy, and it actually feels real.
Spice Check?
Oh yes, it gets spicy. But it’s not overdone or thrown in randomly. The intimacy feels earned — like it comes from a place of real connection, not just physical attraction.
Final Thoughts
Twisted Games surprised me. I expected something fun and dramatic, and I got that — but I also got heart, emotional depth, and characters I actually cared about. It’s the kind of book that keeps you up late because you need to know what happens next.
Bridget is honestly one of the most likable heroines I’ve read in a while. She’s not just a pretty royal — she’s smart, independent, and genuinely wants to do good. Watching her find her voice was so satisfying.
Rhys is your classic alpha male: stoic, overprotective, and emotionally closed off. But somehow, it works. You get why he’s the way he is. His struggle between doing his job and following his heart was written in a way that didn’t feel cheesy or overdone.
I’d give it a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars. If you love:
-
Slow-burn romance
-
Bodyguard/princess tropes
-
Emotional backstories
-
A touch of royal drama
Then this book is absolutely worth reading.
What’s Next?
Now I’m debating whether to reread it or jump straight into the next book in the Twisted series. If you’ve read Twisted Lies or Twisted Hate, let me know if they’re as good!
Have you read Twisted Games? Did you fall for Rhys too, or was he too intense for you? Drop your thoughts in the comments — I love hearing what others think!
